Best Month to Get Married in Savannah

Savannah, GA Forsyth Park Fountain

Ahhhh…the sun is shining, the cicadas are singing, and the streets are alive with the sound of music. Savannah, Georgia is such a gorgeous city. It’s historic, lively, and full of fun events. It’s why we moved here! We love the diversity of cultures and the celebration of art all around. IMHO, it’s the PERFECT spot for a destination wedding. In fact, I estimate that 85% of our couples are destination inbound! So, if you are planning a wedding in Savannah, what are the best months to get married? And what months should you avoid a wedding in Savannah?!

BEST MONTHS TO GET MARRIED

April & May

These are your proper spring months! I mention below about Feb/March feeling like Spring but if you want everything pulled together - all the flowers out, the weather perfectly set in the 70/80s, night time temperatures agreeable, and the buzz of life in the city - then these are the months to do it in! I would say it’s almost better than the fall months because we’re still coming off of the heat of summer whereas April and May are heating up so its not quite there yet, if that makes sense? Think about the oven when you heat it up in your house - when its warm, its warm but when you turn it off, you can still feel the lingering heat for a while after. April and May are just beautiful and they are probably the months I feel the happiest in (aside from October/Halloween!). I think the town may feel the same because everyone seems to be out and shaking off the cold of winter!

September, October, November

Now, the autumn months do technically fall under the hurricane season umbrella, so that is something to consider! I would highly recommend you purchase wedding insurance when booking a wedding in one of those month and always do your due diligence to find a venue with a back-up plan. Thankfully, with the way Georgia is positioned, we hardly ever get a direct hit so you might get lucky and mostly have to deal with rain and some heavy winds. Aside from that, the fall season is a lovely time of year. The intense heat of summer dies away and we are left with sunny skies and weather in the 70s/80s. (That’s reasonable for Georgia! lol). Everything is green and lush and it’s thrilling.

‘DON’T KNOCK ‘EM’ MONTHS TO GET MARRIED

February & March

As I am writing this, it’s the end of February and the temperature is about 70 outside with sun and more warm weather on the way. This is the time of year when I’m planting my garden because the weather is gearing up! Now, early February may still have some late frost dates but late Feb-March is the picture perfect look of Spring on the way. In Forsyth Park, you can see the pink tulip magnolia trees flowering and the greenery start to return to lawns, deciduous trees, and other plants. The bumble bees come back out and the birds are tweeting their sweet songs. BUT, for anyone not familiar with Savannah, GA be careful of St. Patrick’s Day weekend!! We hold the biggest parade right behind NYC and Chicago! The town goes nuts for it the WHOLE week so getting in/out, hotel costs, etc will increase significantly around this time. Something else you may want to consider is the pollen! The pine trees coat everything so if you have allergies - take heed!

December

Savannah, GA in the winter is GORGEOUS! Particularly in the Historic District, the houses deck themselves with ‘boughs of holly’ and the city center is alive with Christmas trees & events including a traditional German market on the riverfront. There are plenty of performances - both free and ticketed - for your guests to enjoy prior to or just after your wedding day! Now it can get *chilly* — I’m talking about 30s-40s at night, so if you are planning anything outside, aim for an earlier ceremony and bring heaters for your guests!

WORST MONTHS TO GET MARRIED

June, July, August

WHEW! I would say try to avoid these months at all costs unless your venue is completely indoors and air conditioned because believe me when I say, it is hot, Hot, HOT! You might be able to get away with an early June wedding but within a week or two, it’s scorching. On top of that, we get thunderstorms so I’ve had it pour just before an outdoor wedding. The clouds part and you think yay! no rain for the ceremony but then the heat comes and it gets muggy real fast. I’ve seen guests drenched in sweat and women’s hair go frizzy like Monica from Friends! It’s not a pretty sight and the guests are understandably grumpy, especially when we are flipping a space or finalizing details meaning they are not allowed indoors until the reception.

So, those are all my thoughts on wedding times in Savannah! Keep in mind that the ‘best times to get married in Savannah’ are also prime wedding season so the prices will more than likely be increased. That’s why if you are ballin’ on a budget consider the ‘don’t knock ‘em"‘ months! Or, go for the heat of summer but make sure you are INDOORS! Most importantly, have fun and enjoy this beautiful city!
