Things To Do During Wedding Planning Down Time

Look at you! The date is set, your vendors are booked, and the design is just about finalized…the thing is you are still months away from your wedding day! Is there something you should be working on? The answer is YES! We’ve listed below six different items that you can get a head start on to save you from last minute detail & wedding planning in the month leading up to your big day!

  1. Ceremony Script

If you plan on having a friend or family member officiate the wedding ceremony, then start putting together your script. How do you want it to sound - romantic, classic, funny? Do you want any poems or readings? Pick those out! Do you want to do a unity ceremony? These are all big things to decide on. We typically recommend your ceremony to last about 15-20 minutes when all said and done. If you need further guidance about how to put together a script, check out our earlier blog posts here and here.

  2. Personal Vows

Speaking of the ceremony, are you planning on writing your own vows? Get started on roughing that out! What do you want to say? What do you want to promise or vow to your significant other? We have ideas to help you get started and you can check them out here.

  3. Marriage License

Continuing with the ceremony trend, we can’t forget this CRUTIAL piece of document. It’s what makes you officially married in the eyes of the state! Make sure you schedule an appointment and start doing your research now to make sure you have all the documents ready and on hand. Some offices can get very busy and if you are traveling out of state, you want to make sure you are applying within the correct timeframe.

  4. Formal Photo List

Start writing down a list for your photographer of what family groups you want captured. Make sure to be exact because if you want a family photo of yourself with your parents and another with your partner and your parents, you better write that down so the photographer can check it off. Otherwise, it may be forgotten in the chaos! As well, make sure to note any particular details you want captured such as custom cocktail napkins, special signage, etc.

  5. Song Choices

I tend to see couples leave this one to the last minute because they think, “Oh, well we know what our first dance song will be!” not realizing how many other songs they still need! Parent dances - are you parents happy with the choice? Better double check! Cocktail Hour - I’m assuming you don’t want booty dropping music at this point so what do you want - jazz, classical, movie scores? Thankfully, we’ve listed out the most common options here and if you can’t decide, always ask your DJ/Band for help and ideas!

  6. Extras

Start looking out for any extras you might want to incorporate into your big day. Little personal things like custom napkins, drink stirrers, dance floor items, favors, and any outfit accessories. I also suggest to our couples to include a little box of decor or trinkets from your home in case there are any bald spots at the venue that could use a little extra oomph. Shop your house for fun items and personal pictures!
